Columbia University Medical Center:

Deans of the Health Science Schools

l. College of Physicians and Surgeons

Founded as the Faculty of Medicine of King's College, 1767. Closed 1776 as a result of the American Revolution.  Revived, 1791, as the Faculty of Medicine of Columbia College.  Merged in 1814 with the College of Physicians and Surgeons which had been founded in 1807.

P&S established a nominal affiliation with Columbia in 1860, but was not fully merged into the University until 1891.  Since the 1940s, the Dean of P&S has often, but not always, also served as the Vice President for the entire health sciences campus.
