BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Physician, New York City. Burrall was born at Machias, Me. on Dec. 13, 1830. He was educated at Williams College, (A.B., 1850) and received his medical degree in 1857 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, now part of Columbia University. He was the author of Asiatic Cholera (New York: Wood & Co., 1866) and numerous scientific articles. Burrall served as attending physician at several New York City institutions including the Charity Hospital, New York Infant Asylum, and the Presbyterian Home. He died at White Plains, N.Y., January 21, 1908.

SCOPE AND CONTENT: Diary and notebook kept by Burrall. The diary entries are scattered from Nov. 10, 1868 to July 23, 1881. Burrall rarely writes of his daily activities with the exception of the description of the illness, death and funeral of his father, Frederick A. Burrall, in February 1870. His entries largely discuss religion, the duties and complexities of the medical profession, and unusual stories heard from patients and family members. Also included is a list of his medical publications from 1871 through 1889.
