BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:
Bard Cosman, plastic surgeon, was born Nov. 10, 1930 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was educated at Erasmus Hall High School, Columbia College (A.B. 1952), and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (M.D. 1955). He completed surgical residencies at Roosevelt and Presbyterian Hospitals and did military service in the U.S. Navy, 1961-63, during which time he was Chief of the Plastic Surgery Service at St. Alban's Naval Hospital.
In 1963 Cosman returned to Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center where he spent the rest of his career. He eventually rose to become an Attending Surgeon at Presbyterian Hospital and first Professor of Clinical Surgery in Anatomy and Cell Biology and first Jerome P. Webster Distinguished Professor of Plastic Surgery at the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
He was a gifted sculptor and had numerous shows of his works in New York City. Cosman was a member of the Society of Animal Artists and the Salmagundi Club and served as president of the New York Physicians Art League. He died in Tenafly, N.J. on August 14, 1983.
SCOPE AND CONTENT:
Case reports submitted by Bard Cosman for his board certification in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Each report includes case notes as well as photographs and drawings of the operations. Cases include operations for cleft palate, cleft lip, burns, congenital abnormalities, carcinoma, malignancy and rhinoplasty. All of the operations were performed at St. Alban's Naval Hospital, Queens, N.Y.

Patients are not identified by name in the reports, but lack of consent forms requires that photographs not be published.
