Reserve Policies

Books, articles, folders and media materials placed on Reserve may be requested at the Circulation Desk. Anyone with access privileges to the Library may check out Reserve materials for Library use.

Patrons with Borrowing Privileges may take out books overnight two hours before closing; these will be due one hour after opening the next morning. Folders do not circulate overnight and cannot be removed from the Library.

Overdue Items and Fines
For overdue Reserve materials, fines accrue hourly to a maximum of $50.00 per returned item. For items that are not returned, users will be charged overdue fines plus the cost of replacing the item and a processing fee.

Placing Material on Reserve for Spring 2010 Semester

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE COMPLETING THE RESERVES REQUEST FORM.

If you would like to have materials placed on reserve, please complete the Library Reserve Web form by January 4th, 2010. Please list items placed on course reserve from previous semesters if they are to be continued on reserve.

It is extremely important that the form be submitted by the deadline noted, in order to provide sufficient time to acquire and/or process the requested materials. Lists received after January 4th, 2010 will be processed in order of receipt, and the Library cannot guarantee that these materials will be on reserve at the beginning of the semester.

Please note the following policies regarding reserve materials:

  1. The Library will place materials on course reserve only if they are "required" readings, in the case of printed materials, or viewing/listening, in the case of audiovisuals.
  2. Similarly, microcomputer software will be placed on course reserve only if its use is required.
  3. "Suggested" and other readings or viewing/listening will not be placed on reserve.
  4. The Library will accept materials provided by the instructor.
  5. We highly recommend that a print out of the completed form, on the next page, accompany your personal items. This applies both to folders at the Reserve Desk and to audio-visuals and microcomputer software.

Acknowledged receipt of the forms will be sent via e-mail within two days. Should you have any questions please contact Shameem Ali , Reserves Assistant,  ( sa13@columbia.edu,  212 305 3605 ).
