Inter-Library LoanILLiadILLiad is the borrowing system used by the Health Sciences Library. In order to request an ILL you will have to login to ILLiad using your UNI.You may be prompted to enter your UNI and password twice to use ILLiad. This is normal.
The first time you login to Illiad you will be prompted to enter some personal information, such as affiliation etc. This will happen one time only.

ServicesInterlibrary Loan:The Interlibrary Loan office has access to research materials from around the world. Qualified users may obtains books, dissertations, audiovisual materials, and photocopies of journal and newspaper articles not available at the Library. Some requests for dissertations or audiovisual materials may not be able to be filled. The ILL staff will try their best to get any item you request, but there are no guarantees. We cannot, however, request materials that are held by the Health Sciences Library. This includes books on reserve and journals that are at the bindery. Orders for these items will be canceled and you will be notified, unless other arrangements are made in advance. See Costs below. Fax: Fax service is available in the Interlibrary Loan office. Faxes can be sent Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. The charge for sending a fax varies depending on where the fax is being sent. Faxes can be received anytime and can be picked up in the ILL office at the above hours. The charge for receiving a fax is $1.00 per page. [Detailed Fax information, pricing & directions] Loansome Doc: Loansome Doc service, which is a way to order articles listed in PUB MED, is available. Select the appropriate affiliation: Columbia University affliates, Columbia University non-affiliated and International Users. Charges for this service vary based on affiliation with Columbia University. A contract for Loansome Doc must be filled out before service can begin. [Back to Top of Page] Eligibility Service is provided for current students, faculty and staff of Columbia University programs located on the Health Sciences campus, and physicians and staff of Columbia University Medical Center. Students, faculty and staff enrolled in or employed by programs located on the Morningside Campus should request Interlibrary Loan service from a library on that campus. Staff of the New York State Psychiatric Institute should request Interlibrary Loan Service from the NYSPI Library (543-5673). Submitting an ILL Request Regular ILL Requests: Interlibrary Loan requests can only be submitted electronically using the above links. Please read the request form carefully and wait for confirmation that your form was entered successfully after you hit the submit button. RUSH ILL Requests: Rush ILL requests can be made by going directly to the Interlibrary Loan Office. Rush request can be made only for Journal Articles. Rush articles are received in 24 hours and carry an $11.00 per article fee. [Back to Top of Page] Receiving an ILL Request It usually takes 3-10 business days to fill an ILL request. Photocopied articles can be sent via campus mail or picked up at the Interlibrary Loan office. At this time, the ILL office cannot email articles. We are hoping to add this feature in the future. Books and audiovisual items are kept at the Health Sciences Library Circulation Desk for pick-up. Borrowing and Returning Items The typical loan period for books I four weeks. Renewals must be requested at the ILL Office at least 5 days before the due date. All borrowed items must be returned to either the ILL office or the Health Sciences Library Circulation Desk. Items returned late are subject to overdue fines and subject to temporary suspension of borrowing privileges as well as jeopardizing our ability to borrow from other libraries. Audio visual and other items may have different loan periods. The due date is listed on the slip that comes in the item. Costs Interlibrary Loan service is provided free of charge to CUMC students, faculty and staff. FAX services carry an $11.00 charge per request and must be requested at the ILL office. If the item requested is owned by the Health Sciences Library but is temporarily unavailable (at the Bindery or on loan to another user) the patron may request that the item be obtained via Interlibrary Loan. In this case, there will be an $11.00 charge per item ordered via regular delivery routes and a $22.00 charger per item for those requested Rush. This orders must be arranged in advance of the request with the Interlibrary Loan staff. [Back to Top of Page] Restrictions There are not restrictions on the number of items that may be requested, however, if a large number of requests are submitted simultaneously they may be processed in batches. The ILL office is subject to US Copyright law and cannot requests copies of articles that are more than 50 pages in length. Most libraries do not lend journals; borrowing an entire issue or volume is unlikely. |
