This podcast explains how to use the Columbia eLink button to locate full text when searching PubMed and other journal databases at Columbia University Libraries.

PubMed is the largest and most widely used database of medical literature and it’s free to search for anyone with Web access. But PubMed is even more open for people affiliated with Columbia University or other similar academic institutions.
(It’s all about full text).

How to access the podcast:

Use the orange buttons to subscribe via iTunes or other software and have each podcast delivered automatically. The process for subscribing manually is explained below.

Software You will need iTunes(or some other podcatching program) to subscribe to the podcast You can choose to listen to your podcasts on your PC/Mac using the iTunes software or you can set the preferences on your iPod (or other portable media device) so that podcasts are copied from iTunes to your portable device. If you do not have iTunes or it needs updating, download the free software here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

A. Subscribe manually

  • In iTunes, click on the "Podcasts" menu item on the left side under "Library"
  • On the top menu, go to "Advanced"
  • Choose "Subscribe to Podcast."
  • Into the new window paste the podcast web address:
http://ccnmtl.columbia.edu/broadcast/hs/library/hslpodcast.xml

The feed will now appear in the podcasts main window of your iTunes. Right-click on the feed and choose "Update Podcast" to get the latest podcast episode, or click the “Refresh” button in the lower right corner of the “Podcasts” window. If you use another type of podcasting software you will also have to copy and paste the above link in the space provided by the software (please see your software help for more instructions).

B. Access via a Web browser

If you have downloaded the most recent versions of either Internet Explorer (IE7) or Mozilla Firefox (Firefox 2), you will be able to listen to this podcast and view its supporting materials by pointing your browser at the podcast web address:
